I think they're too expensive, especially DK 2 and 3, two very common games. I saw Blackjack complete for 33 Dollars on US Ebay some days ago.

I don't want to create a new topic so my question is how can I see that a Game & Watch is a fake?

Is there some difference? or something else that I should look when I buy one?

Thanks

hi catherine

first of all: the games itself are not fake, 'cause thats quite hard or let's say nearly impossible to do so!

common fake things are those who can get copied easily:

- batterycover
- styrofoam
- instructions
- caution sheets
- boxes

those fakes made quite a stir in the game collector world when they first appeared. but nowadays most of the fake objects are declared as fakes within the ad. most boxes have a
unofficial printed on somewhere. so i personally don't get what all the moaning is about fake items!

the best thing you can do is to check out every auction carefully and compare the pictures...
most fake boxes are a little off color...mostly the colors are to strong / bright.
fake styrofoams are much more yellow than real ones. and if you look closely the look a little different anyway.
fake batterycovers are slightly different in color sometimes and most of all, they look different on the backside, wich results from bad or uncorrect molding.

hope that helped a little!

regards

mike

Well, I do!
The reason is quite simple:

It's true that the fake styrofoams can be spotted very easy. Their shape is not correct, mostly the part where the batteries are supposed to be placed in. Many of the boxes are discolored and too shiny and have "non-official" printed on it, that's true as well.

But if a seller of fake items does not include sharp closeup pictures in his auction, it's not easy to see if a box is fake or not.

And there are the papers and batteries (repacked batteries). It's very difficult to see the fake ones! Many sellers buy those papers and batteries to complete a game which has a genuine box. So, how can you be sure that you don't get fake papers and/or fake batteries...?

hi patrick!

thats a point! it is quite diffictult to spot fake paperwork. as i'm not only collecting game&watch related stuff only i don't know all occasions that can happen. how many times you really find instruction sheets that really look like new? except for the NIB games, most of those papers i've seen have at least very minor traces of use or age.

afaik the only thing you can do about that is not to bid on items with bad pictures.
ususally, if i'm not shure about an item, i ask the seller for better pictures.
if he declines, he's not serious and therefore a risk!

Generally speaking: always check the ad very very carefully before you bid!

Thanks a lot for all these advice...

I will be carreful and check ...

Also it's true I saw some box on which it was mentionned "non official" but the seller mentionned it also in his advertissement....so it is that the box is a fake or a repro and even the paper (instruction and how to play ...)?

YES!

I don't buy from a seller of fake G&W, because I don't want to support them...! [-( (

I only appreciate original, and I also don't support those stupid ideas.

All the best,
