Dear all,
I am starting to get a bit upset about eBay user hobbymodel and the fakes being sold out there. The other day I received my first game and watch which looked dubious to me. The poly insert seemed of a slightly different material than usual, I had my suspicions about the instructions and the 'original' batteries seemed a bit strange too. Have I just bought my first fake box / instructions etc.? When you can buy a fake box/instructions/bag/poly insert/batteries/warning sheet/sticker cover for $20 for nearly ANY G&W game, it is very worrying to think that the more fakes that get sold, the higher the chance that people will try and sell games as original, having bought for example a tropical fish for $40, the box and all the bits for $20, and then sell it as a whole NIB package for $200. I know that hobbymodel states that his items are not originals, but how can we trust that the people who buy them won't try and con people? What are your thoughts people? Is this kind of behaviour ok or is the collecting scene going to become full of uncertaintly about what you are buying because of this fairly recent and upcoming injection of fakes? How would nintendo feel about the whole thing? I know I am not too impressed.

You are speaking out of my heart!

I fully dislike all that fake G&W stuff, most of all I dislike the user hobbymodel.

As you wrote already, he does state in his auction that he is selling 're-made' items or 're-packing' items etc. But he does spread the fake items and you never know if you buy from another eBay member if you get genuine items or not...

I'm collecting the data of his auctions and then I will write a letter to Nintendo Japan and also send a copy of it to eBay.
I know that hobbymodel has been reported to eBay more than once, but it looks like eBay does not care... Maybe 'waking up' Nintendo will help. Hobbymodel is using the Nintendo logo for making money, and I don't think he's paying any fees for that to Nintendo...

Patrick - I am glad I am not the only one then. I did look on your ebay user listings to see what hobbymodel had sold, but you have not included these fakes. I was interested to know just how much money he is making, to the eventual cost of all the proper collectors out there.

I shall also write to ebay to complain about him in this case. Maybe a bit more force on the matter will get them off their a*ses and do something. I would encourage anybody else reading this to do the same.

Happy colleting everybody.

I'm glad that other collectors are concerned about hobbymodel as well!

Yes that's right, I do not put data of fake G&W items into the database (or only accidently). It is interesting to know what he has sold and so on. Actually I do have those information in my offline software. That is the data I'll use to report this seller to Nintendo and to eBay.

I also think if more collectors do report hobbymodel, the chance will rise that he will be banned. Hopefully.

PS: The data about hobbymodel is available on request. If any collector wants to report hobbymodel to eBay and/or to Nintendo, I'll gladly send you the data as a .csv file (.csv an be opened in Excel).
If you want it, please send me a PM with an e-mail address where I can send it to.

Hello. I'm from Luxembourg and I've also visited that "hobbymodel"'s shop. You are absolutely right when you say the people who have bought his fake boxes could sell them as "real" ones after.... It's not that I want to protect him or so, but it is written on all his re-printed boxes that it is a "non-official" Nintendo Product and he says it in the objects description. As I have my collection almost finished, i have a lot of boxes missing and thinking of the high prices of original boxes it stays a good alternative to buy such boxes for display use (allthough they are also quite expensive for repros...)... It's a good alternative, but for those who want original boxes: always look carefully on what is written under the NINTENDO logo...
Until today I have not seen that anyone tryed te sell a fake box as a real one. Even if I try not to buy to much from him he still is a good adress for little parts or a reproduction of the boxes that are missing. Of course "real" collectors wont buy such a thing and I can fully understand that. Greetings to all

Hello yusuke urameshi and welcome to the forum :welcome:

It is correct, that hobbymodel does now print "non official" below the logo. That's new, he does it for about three weeks now or so. Before he only did mention in his auctions, that he is selling "re-product", but nothing was on the boxes.

Now it is far more easy to spot such fake boxes. And yes, I never would buy such a fake box, I rather have my games unboxed then... ;-) )
